Dell Announces a Unified Storage Strategy…Sort of
There was some interesting news out of the Dell organization from a recent analyst event. Our friends over at the Register brought us the highlights of the story (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/06/02/dell_planning_compellent_equallogic_unification/) which talks about the plans by Dell to bring together their Compellent and Equallogic lines.
Mighty Merger of FC and iSCSI?
One of the challenges around this announcement is of course the fact that these platforms are running with different software, and different protocols for server connectivity. The question that many have is whether there will be complete shift towards Fibre Channel or iSCSI. We may see the option to run either in the final product which could be a great option to merge the best of both worlds.
At this point it is still too early to tell what the final product will look like, but this is an exciting move by Dell which could put them into a competitive place in the unified storage market. Only time will tell, so keep watching here as we watch the story unfold.
