The VSAN Sizing Guide for Horizon View

The VSAN Sizing Guide for Horizon View
Eric Wright, vExpert, Cisco Champion

When VSAN was debuted, there were a few use-cases that were highlighted early that VMware specifically targeted as ideal. One such business use-case is VDI on VMware Horizon View.

Partnered for Ideal Performance

Luckily the teams at VMware have become closer as the years have come along. In the past, we sometimes saw that the Horizon View (then VMware View) architecture was not specifically designed against VMware solutions.

Many storage vendors produced reference architectures for VMware Horizon View implementations over each iteration of the product. The reasoning for this is because storage design for Horizon View is one of the more challenging to deal with due to size and performance issues that could detract from the consumer experience.

Rawlinson Rivera has posted the new VMware Virtual SAN Design and Sizing Guide for Horizon View Virtual Desktop Infrastructures documentation at the VMware vSphere Blog here. The link to download the PDF is on the page for there. This is a great document to have for reference, and covers storage, networking, and compute resource requirements based on each proposed size.
