Open vStorage Opens the Curtain on Their Product

Open vStorage Opens the Curtain on Their Product
Eric Wright, vExpert, Cisco Champion

Another interesting product in the storage landscape came out of stealth mode very recently named Open vStorage. While choosing the acronym OvS (similar to Open vSwitch/OVS) may be confusing to some, the tagline for the product is actually “Open vStorage delivers for storage what Open vSwitch does for networking!” so it seems entirely appropriate.

A Look Inside Open vStorage

This has the potential to be a strong impact, especially when labeled as “Works with any storage back-end, including filesystems, NAS, S3 compatible object storage” providing a flexible back-end support to a unified VM filesystem. It is not without its challenges though, so more investigation on the product is definitely worthwhile.

You can read about the product review here at the StorageMojo blog, and view the main site at OpenvStorage.com.

  1. Hi Eric,

thanks for the kind words. Let me know if you want more info or want to see a demo!

In case you want to give Open vStorage a test drive, feel free to download the software and play with it. It is free and open-source. Of course we would love to hear your feedback via mail or through the support forums (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/open-vstorage). The detailed install instruction can be found at the documentation website (http://doc.openvstorage.com/doc_openvstorage/Installation).

    Kind regards,
